Food for Thoughts: ChatGPT
Viatecla, has been hosting meetings to discuss the impact of ChatGPT, an AI-powered language model, on various aspects of our lives and workplaces. The consensus among experts is that ChatGPT represents a paradigm shift that requires us to rethink how we approach daily tasks and ways of thinking. While there are concerns about possible biases and risks, there is also excitement about the democratization of access to AI and the potential benefits it can bring if used intelligently and safely.
Every 15 days, Viatecla hosts a gathering of guests for a discussion on emerging topics of common interest and concern. In our recent meetings, we discussed the impact of ChatGPT on the workplace and even on our personal lives. In the first meeting, we brought together school directors and people directly involved in education to discuss the impact of technology on teaching. In the second meeting, we gathered industry experts to discuss its impact on communication and marketing.
The consensus is that technologies like ChatGPT are here to mark a new era. Bill Gates has said that they will be as important as the computer and the internet. At Viatecla, we also believe that we are witnessing a paradigm shift that forces us to look at daily tasks and ways of thinking in a different light, now that we have new and powerful support tools.
In education, the tool is appreciated in different ways: either as something that hinders student learning, as it can do school work for them, or as a tool to encourage critical thinking and should have its use encouraged. In any case, it is seen as a point of change in the teaching and learning process.
In marketing and communication, the tool is seen as powerful for speeding up and supporting creative work. However, concerns about the concept of AI safety are explicitly expressed, with risks and consequences of possible biases that the tool may bring to communication media.
In summary, ChatGPT has democratized access to the world of artificial intelligence, forcing every organization and person to look and analyze how tools like this can contribute, in a safe way, to our daily lives. There is no room for indifference because the new world has arrived - and it has come to stay: either we embrace the new technology and use it intelligently to help us or we run the risk of falling behind by not exploring the benefits that it can bring us.
